Life was getting him down when he walked into the Alchemist shop. She offered him the book and he felt oblidged to accept it even though he had no intension of reading it. Why would he?
But he did read it and then doubted it. The book soon brought him in line and had him publically humiliated.
He decided to try it out, and performed a spell in the privacy of his own home. It worked. He did some good with it and he felt good.
He tried a more adventurous spell to improve his love life. More embarassment but you've guessed it. It worked.
Money, women, travel, adventure pushing life to the limit. But pain and stress and yes, more humility.
