Rumpelstiltskin meets "Damn Yankees," and chaos ensues.

Heather Mahaffey was a beauty, true, and clever, but her father had a tendency to run off at the mouth. And that could land a girl in a whole mess of problems--especially when the man was praising her to the wealthiest rancher around, telling him that she could out-cook anyone in the New Mexico Territory. The whole situation was mortifying, especially when Heather knew she had difficulty boiling water. Worse, the wealthiest man in the territory was also the best looking. Philippe St. Pierre had a face women would die for...and a body to match. But was it worth feigning ability just to earn money for her family...and maybe for a chance to be near Philippe? And was the devilishly handsome man who offered to assist her--one Mr. D. A. Bologh--on the up and up, or did he have a purpose far more sinister? Either way, with one kiss from Philippe and faster than she could say Rumpelstiltskin, Heather was in the kitchen and...Cooking Up Trouble. Excerpt
Forever afterward, Heather Mahaffey blamed it on the wind. If the winds hadn't been particularly fierce that spring of 1895, she'd never have lost her head and done what she did.

If it wasn't the wind's fault, then Heather was in deep trouble because she couldn't cook a lick. Her whole family knew it, so perhaps the wind had addled her father's brain, too, when he'd told Philippe how handy Heather was in the kitchen.

Must read!
Heather Mahaffey is in BIG trouble. Her family has had some bad luck so she decides to take Philippe St. Pierre up on his offer of a job. The problem is he needs a cook and Heather burns water. Everyone has told Philippe how bad a cook Heather is but he decides to give her a chance anyway.

The first day on the job Heather just doesn't know what to do. Then she hears a knock on the door and lo and behold there's a man there who tells her that her worries are over. He'll cook for her for one month in exchange from something from her. He just doesn't tell her what the something is. Heather's desperate so she agrees to this bargain. The guy tells her his name is D. A. Bologh. Heather does not like D. A. at all. She also does not trust him but he sure can cook. He magically produces the most wonderful meal. He even cleans up the mess afterwards. Heather cannot believe her luck but something still doesn't seem right about the whole set up. Then strange things start happening. Mr. St. Pierre starts mysteriously losing cattle. His fences blow down. There are strange storms. What in the world is going on? Heather is very suspicious of D. A. Bologh and keeps asking him what her part of the bargain is. He tells her not to worry her pretty little head about it until later. Meanwhile Heather becomes more and more attracted to Philippe and he to her but there are things that she doesn't know and things that he doesn't know. Also what does D. A. Bologh have to do with all of this? What happens when Philippe's mother shows up looking younger than Philippe? What is the true story behind all of this?

This book was delightful. Heather was so inept in the kitchen and she just didn't quite know what to think of D. A. Bologh. Philippe tried hard to remain a cold uncaring man but his attraction for Heather has become such that he has to act upon it. This book is most definitely a page turner and truly a must read!
