Thomas Wade Bounds

“Choices, My Secrets”

Thomas Wade Bounds was born in New Orleans, LA, in December of 1967 where he and his sisters lived out loud they enjoyed a life style of swimming, running, playing with friends and chasing the tug boats pushing barges down the mighty Mississippi River while fishing off the banks of the levy’s and playing in the mud. Thomas also spent time playing golf with his father Tom and learning all he could from his mother Leah.

At the age of six Thomas’ family moved to Kingston, New York where he quickly learned about deep snow and sleds. His two older sisters, younger brother, his friends and he played endlessly on their quarter mile slay run down the hills of the neighborhood and when they were not doing that ice-skating was were the kids of the hill could be found. When the heat of the summer months dropped in for a short but miserable stay he knew how to stay cool if he was not swimming in the pool with family and friends, you could find he and his brother stomping through creeks, ponds, mud puddles and the woods searching for turtles and bull frogs but occasionally they came across poisonous snakes and snapping turtles. They just loved living in the wild; of course it was just their backyard, but good enough. Every now and then a kid in the neighborhood had to show he was the strongest and a fight would brake out. No one really ever won. But was still something to-do and most thought they gained some kind of respect.

After four short years in Kingston his family picked up and moved to Charlotte, NC where Thomas spent time developing friends with hope that they would not need to move again. His families joined a small church in their neighborhood and were charter members. It was a unique opportunity for Thomas and his family as they were able to help the church grow and establish strong roots in the community but most importantly Thomas grew to know Christ excepting a place for him in his heart. His father was also his Sunday school teacher. He had many friends that attended as well.   One of his memories of the church was Melvin Graham; the late brother of Reverend Billy Graham, Melvin always took the opportunity to speak to Thomas and asked him how things are going in school and in sports that he played. Thomas enjoyed speaking with him and asking questions knowing he had some interesting stories and great wisdom to offer. (Melvin I am sure has touched many hearts in his life time.)

Soon Thomas completed high school. Now at the age of eighteen his family moved out of the country to the Far East, Japan. Thomas took hold of Japan and Asia and did not return to the United States for many years. Japan became a learning scope for him as he ventured into the real world as a minority. During his time in Japan, Emperor Hiro Hito; died and he and several friends made their way down to the well wishing lines and put there names into the history books by signing one of the condolence books for the Imperial family.

He treated Asia as his backyard and journeyed to where ever his job or vacation took him. The travels were like searching for the wisdom of the orient looking for that one thing that made since but at that age it was still invisible, visiting Korea, Hong Kong, Thailand, Philippines, Guam and Saipan a long with a six month stint in Hawaii none the less learning a variety of cultures and the ins and outs of poverty taught him a life full of education.  He settled down on the Island of Saipan part of the Northern Marians Islands or the CNMI which is a USA Territory and where he met and married his wife Elsa. Together they brought two wonderful children into the world both a blessing and a gift from God. Thomas said “These two kids have taught me so much more than I could learn from my own life. It most defiantly takes a child or two in your life to bring out the best of yourself. God’s way of humbling you into a man with a better understanding of life’s purpose.”

Thomas returned to the United States just after the tragic 9/11 attacks. Saying that “9/11 helped change my prospective on life.”

Soon after that he found Christ in a more instrumental way building on his faith and developing a more solid marriage and family and a greater understanding of his faith.

That is when he decided to put forth energy and stand up for his heritage and values. In 2005 Thomas founded Heritagevalues.com and began a journey to preserve the heritage and values he was raised on as well America was founded on. Faith, Family, Country. He feels that kids today do not fully have that balance or truth.

Thomas then went on with his sister and father to make several stickers that captured the Ten Commandments, “The Pledge of Allegiance” and the “Unalienable Rights.”

He did this in hope to keep these Marvels of our Country in the sights and sounds of American kids today.

Thomas said “Where the writing is displayed people can read it and when reading is good; good things can become of it.”

“Judges and Atheist wanting to remove our countries heritage and at the same time remove our liberty our faith and our rights”

He then sat down one night and in several hours wrote “Choices, My Secrets” and over the course of a year and a half he fine tuned it for completion and publishing along with  friends and family that guided him through. “Of course God gave me the words” said Thomas

He wrote this in efforts to share with own kids without over bearing them or boring them. His goal was to show them a life of interest around their age and let them live it without actually having to live it for real. In the series he brings out realistic issues and struggles that young teens face today. This helps them capture the wisdom the short stories offer.

He also has a passion in life which is living life for the purpose God intends for us. He shows that in the short story. His hope is to show hope, courage, success and the reasons why life is a gift from God and to save a life.

Choices, My Secrets is a first of a series for teens and parents it can be utilized as a tool to help bridge the conversation between child and parents to help talk it out without being argumentive or misunderstanding the issue of choices and pressures teens face today.

Coming soon. The next short story in the series of Choices for teens and parents.
