I moved to Nebraska, only 45 minutes north of the farm I grew up on, and married. We raised three children, and have 10+ grandchildren. I teased my mother recently that my kids are giving her nearly as many great grandchildren as she has grandchildren. My parents raised six of us and helped raise a few of their grandkids as well.

I studied to become a licensed practical nurse at Southeast Community College in Beatrice, Nebraska where I graduated in 1981. After leaving my nursing career, I gained my Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration while gaining certificates for writing courses including creative and technical writing through Peru State College of Peru, Nebraska. It doesn’t matter how much education I have, I do reserve the right to say ain’t.  Ain’t is in the genetics.

As you can see family, my country background, conservative Christian values and my vivid imagination all play into what I write. As well as do things I learned through 20 years of working in nursing caring for people with special needs, those needing skilled nursing care and so forth. I may not use specific individuals, but many of my characters are based on the personalities or features of people I know. However, I allow myself to be a multiple personality.

My first book The Search follows a young author trapped in a small town off Interstate 80, in Nebraska. Once there she can’t get out the way she came in. The innkeeper becomes increasingly disturbing to the point of sinister undertones. The few town’s people talk about Shepherd who will be returning and is the only one who can lead her through the treacherous journey out of the small town of Hidden.

My second book consists of a selection of short stories titled Six Strange Short Stories.

Currently I’m working on two main projects. One is a book of interviews with Living Successful Nebraska Authors including screenwriters, novelists, poets and more. The other project is inspired by real people and events prior to and during prohibition. The oldest son had dark skin and the rest of the children were light skinned and blond. The main character, Charles is torn between the protective world he grew up in with loving parents and 8 younger siblings, a world of gambling and bootlegging, and racial hatred he’d been protected from as a child.

I am a member of the Nebraska Writer’s Guild that consists of wonderful authors willing to encourage and lend bits of advice and opportunities to meet with other writers.
