In 1980, I was born in Columbus, Ohio. Though my family lived in Southern Ohio, I spent the first two months of my life as a NICU patient in a Columbus area hospital.
From my homecoming in early 1981 until July of 1991, I was raised in the rural Southeastern Ohio communities of Jackson and Oak Hill. As the result, I quickly learned to appreciate life's simpler things.
A 26-week gestational age preemie at birth, I overcame two neurosurgeries by the age of six. This experience left me with not only an appreciation for my own life and the lives of every preemie, but also a greater appreciation for how precious, fragile, and special our lives are and can become.
In 1991, my family and I left Southern Ohio and began traveling the country, living in Raleigh, North Carolina; Odessa, Texas; Cross Lanes, West Virginia; and Galveston, Texas. Between 1991 and 1997, we also made a few more stops back home in Oak Hill, Ohio. We settled at my current home in Texas City, Texas, fifteen miles from the Gulf of Mexico's coastline, in July of 1999.
I attended several public elementary schools from kindergarten through the sixth grade and began Christian Liberty Academy Satellite School's (CLASS) Home Schooling program in the seventh grade. I graduated from high school, via the CLASS program, in January 1999.
I began writing short stories due to a second grade school assignment in 1988; I began writing poetry as the result of a seventh grade school assignment in 1994. Since that school assignment in 1994, I have written over 1,500 poems and have achieved a great deal of personal and professional success, as a result.
My biggest influences in life are God, my family and my second and sixth grade teachers, Mrs. Regina Chaney of Jackson, Ohio and Mrs. Sharon Needham of Oak Hill, Ohio. Both teachers played a vital role in the path I am pursuing, today.
My writing inspirations are Robert Frost, Emily Dickinson, Edgar Allan Poe, and R.L. Stine, whose "Goosebumps" children's book series (combined with the fun-nature of Sharon Needham's Reading class), took me from being a "fair-weathered" reader to someone who has a much greater appreciation for the world of imagination that exists between two book covers.
