A few words about the two books published in the U.S.: (1) Set in the tumultuous Cultural Revolution period of modern Chinese history (1966-76), "Shanghai Escapist" is a novel about political upheaval, escape and survival under Orwellian conditions. Offering numerous glimpses of life during Mao's leftist Reign of Terror through the experiences of a young man determined to escape from totalitarianism, the story raises a serious question to the reader: What would you do if caught in similar circumstances? (2) "A Guide to Chinese Affairs" is a comprehensive political treatise on the China issue which attempts to provide an easy-to-understand perspective on the world's most populous country and its various problems for such Westerners as might wish to look at the China issue through an expert Chinese eye.
