Although my primary occupation is the field of music—piano teacher, church organist/music director, and public school music teacher—I have been writing poetry since childhood. A shy, sensitive child, I entertained myself by playing piano, writing songs with and without words, and reading every poem in the entire encyclopedia set, “The Book of Knowledge.” My elementary teachers fed my love for poetry and my need for creative expression. I think that music and poetry are sisters in the family of aesthetics.
I write because I must. When the muse throws down inspiration like golden manna from heaven, I catch it— that small taste of knowing—and savor it in my mouth. Then I spit out the words on paper, (figuratively) let them dry, and try to arrange them into a poem that another human being can digest.
While taking a creative writing class at UWA I was asked to write only free verse. It was hard for me at first, but now I'm hooked on alliteration and internal rhyme. I occasionally write traditional poems, songs, short shorts and memoirs.
Bio
Wynne Huddleston is a poet and music educator with a Master of Music Education degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. She studied graduate level creative writing at the University of West Alabama. Ms. Huddleston was born in Lone Star, Texas, but has lived in Mississippi most of her life. She was workshop presenter at the 54th Mid-South Poetry Festival in Memphis on Oct. 1, 2011 and was judge for the Best of the Fest. Secretary of the Mississippi Poetry Society and a board member of the Mississippi Writers Guild, her poetry has been published in:

Wynne Huddleston has read selections of her poetry at the Vicksburg Conference, at Literary Artists On Stage in Vicksburg, at Espressyo Soul (The Gathering Place) and at Sage Coffee and Books in Meridian, MS and at the Mississippi Poetry Society Fall Festival 2010 at Belhaven College, Jackson, MS.
MUSICIAN
She has been an elementary music teacher for 21 years, a piano teacher since high school, and a church musician or choir director since 6th grade. She received superior ratings for piano solo at the Bach Festival and for clarinet duo at Solo & Ensemble, the Meridian Community College Music Award, chorus scholarships to the University of Southern MS, and was a member of the auditioned USM Singers Choir. Her piano club won the State Jr. Federation of Music Clubs' Loving Cup in 1985. The Meridian Philharmonic Nat'l Federation of Music Clubs won multiple ribbons during her term as President. Ms. Huddleston has had students perform in the Mississippi Elementary State Honor Choir for many years.

"Many More Birthdays," is a song Ms. Huddleston wrote for Relay for Life's 2010 theme. The song was performed by vocalist Dinah Rebecca Lachney at the Scott County Relay for Life Opening Ceremonies in Forest, MS on May 21, 2010
