Author, Anita Wills, is the Author of two books, Notes And Documents of Free Persons of Color, and Pieces of the Quilt: The Mosaic of An African American Family (due out May 2009). Ms. Wills writes about Free Persons of Color in Colonial Virginia and Pennsylvania.  She was born and raised in Chester County Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia. Her early influences were her father, who was a linguist, and her mother who shared stories about their forebearers.  Pieces of The Quilt continues the chronicles from the first book, Notes And Documents of Free Persons of Color. The chronicles include a brief excerpt on President Barack Obama.  Ms. Wills ancestor, Elijah Johnson, was one of the founders of Monrovia.   He is a direct ancestor of the author, and besides settling Liberia fought in the War of 1812.  His daughter, Sarah Johnson is the direct ancestor of Ms. Wills. The book continues along with stories of ancestors who were related to, and resided in the household of James Monroe's grandfather,  William Monroe Senior, and Uncle William Monroe Junior.  The book is in narrative form and describes the Pieces of the Quilt, which make up the African Americans Mosaic.

Ms. Wills has contributed to an Exhibit at the DAR Museum in Washington DC commorating Native, and African Americans in the Revolutionary War.

In October of 1999, Ms. Wills coordinated an event with the National Park Services, titled Mary and Patty Bowden Commemoration Ceremony.

In September of 2000, Ms. Wills coordinated an event with the National Park Services to commemorate Native, and African American Soldiers.
