Maria Eugenia Caseiro: Havana, Cuba. Caseiro always showed a special inclination towards the world of writing. As a writer, essayist and poet, she earned her first award in a composition contest at the tender age of 11 In her native Cuba. However, as the country’s political climate grew increasingly more difficult, in 1970 she found herself at a crossroads faced with the dilemma of sympathizing with the new system for the sake of being able to continue her studies, or dissenting, and forgoing her access to higher education. Her choice wasn’t difficult, she chose the latter, and eventually, much later in life while already a mother and housewife, she Found the time to resume her studies and complete her education. In 1989, Caseiro left Cuba and relocated to Miami with her immediate family, and she has yet to return to the land that saw her be born. In 1993, decades after her first writing contest as a little girl, Caseiro retook her passion for writing fueled not just by her sentiment for personal betterment, but also by a much needed place of solace and refuge to escape the collapse of her world and profound pain caused by the sudden loss of one of her sons. Maria Eugenia has been honored and bestowed with several awards and nominations throughout her pullulating literary career. Her work has been disseminated and published across the world, in both digital and print, and has been translated into a broad number of languages spanning from Arab to Japanese.
