"What makes a writer?    Talent, certainly. Skill. Skill can be learned.   Tougher question:  What makes a published writer?  Determination. Dedication. Study. Hard work. Focus. Determination. Belief in oneself.  More determination. Yep. It's that simple.   Writing is creation, and characters are rarely predictable.  I don't try to control their actions.  I let them lead me through the story.   They know best where they're going. In my first published novel, the main character, Christie, yanked me out of my outline and took me in an entirely different direction.
