Background Information

Born to a teenage mother, Beverly spent her childhood years under the tender care of adoptive parents. Early in life, Beverly excelled academically, developing superb communication and writing skills. Until one day while walking home from school at age 12, she was attacked and brutally raped by an unknown assailant. After years of keeping the attack secret from her family, Beverly encountered another major obstacle when her high school sweetheart died tragically. From that point, her life spiraled into deep depression and misbehavior, resulting in substance abuse, sexual addiction, and even jail time. Nevertheless, Beverly graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Communications from Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia. She has written several newspapers articles, and done research in the Mass Media field. In July 2005, she began writing Confessions of a Church Girl as a means of personal healing. Soon after, she discovered this writing would ultimately change lives. Beverly is a candidate for a Master of Arts in Social Justice from Loyola University Chicago. She is the owner of Patmos Island Media, and currently resides in Illinois. An award-winning journalist, she travels the country discussing addiction, rape, and abstinence with youth and women.
