My daughter, Wendy Whiteman, and I recently co-authored a genealogy book about my g-g-grandfather, who was killed at the Alamo, and his descendents. A Visual History Record of Alamo Defender Gordon Cartwright Jennings' Family was released in March 2014 with a signing at the Alamo Society Symposium at the Menger Hotel in San Antonio.  The book contains images of the Jennings and Williams families (both Texas pioneer families) down to me and my daughter. It also has the genealogy of the line. My dad was born in Texas. He was a big man, about 6'3" and was a true cowboy as a young man before working for SP Railroad. When he and my mother were first married his parents and brothers and the newly wed couple (my folks) drove a herd of cattle from Texas to Montana. On the way, my oldest sister was born in Santa Fe. It seemed, of each of us 8 kids, only 2 were born in the same state. Anyway, my grandparents then raised hay for the cavalry up in Montana. My dad's grandfather on his mother's side was a Texas Ranger and his great grandfather was killed at the Alamo. Another of his great Uncles was killed at a battle at Golaid. My grandmother on my mother's side was a New Mexico homesteader when it was rare for women to claim land as their own. She also was a school teacher in the early days of New Mexico.
