Rosemarie Keller Skaine writes sociology with a human face. She records the voices of women and men into history.


Background Information

 (photo date: 2007) "...self is a sea boundless and measureless, ... the soul walks upon all paths ... ." Gibran  Rosemarie Keller Skaine earned her M.A. in Sociology. She holds honorary society memberships in Pi Kappa Delta, speech, Alpha Kappa Delta, sociology, Quill and Scroll, journalism and National Forensic League, speech. Publications other than 14 books include coauthored national and international journal articles. Skaine's book with ABC-CLIO/Praeger Security International, Sexual Assault in the U.S. Military: The Battle within America's Armed Forces is published as of 2015. Other activities include general consultation, consultation on three television documentaries, expert testimony, numerous presentations to all types of groups and interviews with media. She participated in the South Dakota Center for the Book's three day program, "Maintaining Democracy in an Unstable World," August 2002. She was a panel member with Ambassador George McGovern and Dr. Robert Watson in Mitchell, S.D. Following the panel, she made presentations in Aberdeen, Brookings and Sioux Falls, S.D. She was a keynote speaker and held 2 breakout sessions at the 2010 One Day Conference at the Multicultural Center in Grand Island, NE. On March 8, 2013, she was the invited keynote speaker on the UN interactive panel entitled, "The Allure of Female Suicide Bombers." The program is part of the UN Commission on the Status of Women 57: "Elimination and prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls." She participated in the Teachers Exchange Program while in China with her husband, Professor James Skaine, at Beijing Normal, Hebei Teachers, and Shaanxi Teachers, and Guangxi Teachers Universities, May 1991. She traveled to Havana, Cuba with the U.S. Delegation to the XII International Congress on Family Law, September 2002. In January 2004, she traveled to Kenya and Tanzania to study for her book on FGM. One of the many rewarding visits was to the Maasai tribe.

The Gustavus Myers Center Award for the Study of Human Rights in North America was presented in 1997 to Rosemarie Skaine for her outstanding work on intolerance in North America for her book, Power and Gender: Issues in Sexual Dominance and Harassment, McFarland & Co., Inc., Publishers, 1996.


Inductee in the Grand Island Senior High Hall of Honor, Grand Island, Nebraska, 2009.
