I emphasize photographs as historic documents and have spent many years as a potographer and photographic historian. Ihave experimented with and produced examples of historic photographis processes usign vintage equipment to learn more about aesthetics and technical limitations and capabilities.  I have aggressively collected and researched historic images from the perspective of process and format of the photograph as well as image content. I assemble collections of related images and work to identify and extract the stories that they capture and contain. I have also focused on biographic research about the pioneer photographers and have produced extensive checklists of their work, particularly in Arizona before ca 1920. I have wrtten several books  including Photographers in Arizoan -  a History and Directory, and Arizona Real Photographic Postcards - A History and Portfolio, and articles on photographers including Charles Farciot, Dudley Flanders, and George Rothrock. I have also worked in and writen about digital collections of photographs, digital libraries of 3D objects and artifacts, and digital preservation. Influences include the classic photographic historians, histories of expeditions and explorations, and vernacular and amateur photographic aesthetics.
