I am a second generation Mexican American but consider myself a Chicano. My family origins on my father's side are Villa Garcia, Zacatecas and Aguascalientes, Mexico; on my mother's side, Guanajuato and Guadalajara.
I was born and raised in San Bernardino, Ca, in the westside barrio known as Mt. Vernon.

Accomplishments
After dropping out of High School at 16, I went on to earn an Associate of Arts Degree in 1967 at San Bernardino Valley College. In 1970, I received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and, in 1977, a Law Degree from the University of California, Berkeley. Then, in 1997, I received a Masters Degree in Education from San Diego State University.
