I was born on the Caribbean island of Saint Lucia. I’m a journalist,and a former newspaper editor, and a Reuters Fellow (Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, Oxford University). Presently, I’m magazine editor and the creator of Caribbean Book Blog.
Crime fiction masters James Hadley Chase. Mikey Spillane and Jeffrey Archer were among my main sources of inspiration I was captivated by their ability to keep the reader hooked from beginning to end. I also noted the way they were able to stimulate a reader’s power of visualization with vivid descriptions, spare prose, tight plotting and sparkling dialog that had a cinematic quality. They seemed to make a studied effort not to let words get in the way of mental imagery. With this type of fiction, you become not just a reader but a participant in the story, and you’re swept away emotionally. All this stuck with me and I think, subconsciously, it began to influence my approach to writing fiction.
