A disconnect between my competitive life as an athlete and corporate life led to one burning question: “Is it possible for ordinary business men and women to live and lead with character?” I spent two years on a literature review and interviewed over 100 business leaders and judo Olympians to find out. In studying the business leaders’ and athletes’ life lessons and hard won wisdom, I learned that three principles from another culture and epoch can apply to our modern corporate life. Courage is necessary for long lasting career success and satisfaction. Benevolence takes us beyond the worn out clichés of work/life balance to leave a lasting contribution. And by living and leading with character, you can make a great difference in your life, your children’s lives and the lives of those you lead.
