I started writing poetry when I was around Thirteen Years Old and I haven't stopped yet! I started writing my memoir in 1995 after leaving an abusive relationship.


Background Information

Growing up my mind was filled with notions of love stories. When I entered Jr. High I wrote a poem that quickly spread around school and I became an inspirational word dame to my friends. I always tried to uplift them and make them happier about life.  I don't know what ever became of that poem but it was my masterpiece at the time.  Shortly after this I took a writing course and hated every minute of that because it was the first time anyone had ever gave me so much criticism before about the things I loved writing about. I couldn't please my writing coach at all and barely skated through the course by my shoestrings. I spent the better part of my teenage years reading romance novels by Cassie Edwards, Nora Roberts, Jane Austen, Virginia Henley, and Victor Hugo. Good love stories from writer's like these have a way of coming to life. When I read them I felt thrilled and alive. I envisioned myself growing up and writing just like them. I wanted to feel passionate about my characters and my story lines. Some women grow up longing for romance and passion and I lived it for myself first hand so writing about it came easy for me. After my long term relationship ended and I started a new one, we moved away together I started writing again through a blog in order to deal with my loneliness and my homesickness in a new town and state. I had never been that far away from home or my mother before so I took up writing in my blog. Before long it became a hit with millions of visitors per week reading it for themselves. My blog entitled  "Ladyhawk's Life" stayed on the top ten for over eighteen years in a row until I decided to pull it from public view. In Dec 2005 my near death experience from an accident created a void in my life that could only be filled with healing pursuits such as Yoga and Reiki. During my healing process I learned to give up the story of "poor me" and took on a whole new life for myself. In our writings it is hard to kill our darlings but sometimes it is necessary for us to move on in other creative ways. In life, we have to make our own happy endings and every road we take leads us eventually to that very life we have been longing for if we believe in it. I live in the beautiful mountains of Tennessee with my wonderful family, my rescue pets, herd of wild deer, and my chickens. I am an avid pet lover and heartfelt wildlife conservationist.
