I started devouring books as soon as I could read them, which was the second grade. I loved mysteries, which is probably why I now write them. My favorite series were the Trixie Belden and Judy Bolton novels, but I also read and loved the Nancy Drew and Cherry Ames (she as a nurse) books. I wrote stories, and even tried my hand at a novel in third grade, but didn't get very far. I took a creative writing course in my senior year of high school, and allowed myself to be discouraged by the teacher. And so I gave up the idea of writing, though I continued to read,mainly the classics and Russian novels, as I grew older. I majored in Spanish, instead, and taught for nine years. When my two sons were little I found myself taking writing courses. First I wrote short stories and poems, but I soon realized that the form I loved best was and still is the novel. AND DON'T BRING JEREMY was my first published book. It's a young YA about two brothers. It achieved some acclaim. I wrote a few more juvenile novels, and then found myself writing mysteries and a few romantic suspense. I now write books in all three genres. I love going from being a ten-year-old boy practicing his Invisible Spell, which he's not supposed to be doing, to a forty-something woman trying to figure out who's been killing the people in her book club. Writing novels is fun, is difficult, is frustrating, is worthwhile. It's what I do and what I'll continue to do for as long as I can.
