This misdirected life started in 4th grade when I finished all the action, adventure, sea, western, and mystery books in the elementary school library (and a few romances). I was sent to the base library in Langley, VA, with a note saying I needed reading material for class. The librarian hauled me over to the youth section and handed me a book titled The Year of the Angry Rabbit. By the end of the year I had read every sci-fi book in the library, including the more adult works like Brave New World, Forbidden World, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, and 1984, with all of Poe and Norton (pre-1962) thrown in for spice. I was ruined for life. Then in high school I met writers like Asimov, Clark, and Heinlein. Heinlein led me to read the Bible (seriously), Koran, Upanishads, Avestan and other religious works. Then there was the poetry of Dylan, Cohen, and Tom Rapp. Of course I had to write. Do you think there was any other choice available?
