W.C. Anderson is a native Floridian who's currently separated from home and putting on a (mostly) brave face in the southwest. Tired of all the best stories being about kid, teenagers, and milquetoast heroines, she spent several years working on a dark fantasy series for and about grown-ups. Her writing takes place in between diaper changes, coaching little league, skirmishes with dust, scorpions, and rattlesnakes, and what little sleep she gets. She graduated from the University of North Florida with a B.A. in Psychology and from... some other school with an M.A. in Criminal Justice.
From the author:
Growing up I wrote far too many cliched short stories and spectacularly bad poetry. Thinking writing was somehow a waste of time during my 20s, I veered off course for awhile. After sketching random ideas in notebooks, starting a dozen novels that remain unfinished, and mostly... fumbling in the dark, I was finally drawn back. A solitary goal refused to leave me through all of the preceding fumbling and madness: a desire to bring to life a unique and strong female protagonist. (Discovered along the way that it's a lot harder than you'd think.)
Ironically, during the time "wasted" figuring out how to write a novel, the publishing industry was turned upside down. Like so many aspiring writers, I fell into despair after receiving a number of form rejections. Breaking in without some kind of inside connection seemed, whether real or imagined, inherently hopeless. Unwilling to give up and accept failure, I find myself in the world of self-publishing, (me, a small town girl who grew up rustic & shy) after deciding to suck it up and take the plunge.
Nothing is as I expected. Equal parts terrifying, exhilirating, and fraught with self-loathing, I'm stumbling my way through.
