I enjoy the field of criminal justice and am excited about the opportunity to include some of my experiences working in Texas prisons and as a county probation officer into future writing projects. The novel I’m working on is my first extended work with Fiction as it is a psychological thriller. However, my passion, is for memoir. Throughout my recovery from sexual, physical and emotional abuse endured from the ages of 4-22, I found my voice—no more secrets, lies, shame, or guilt. It was a freedom I wanted for every survivor, so I wrote my personal story, Don’t Cry, Daddy’s Here. Now I do inspirational speaking, write blogs, articles, do interviews, all in an effort to create awareness, teach prevention, and encourage recovery. At TASCA, I teach a writing workshop every Wednesday which focuses on memoir writing. It’s a pleasure to give presentations on writing memoir, creative non-fiction, and family histories. Everyone’s life is meaningful and should be remembered for what they have to share, especially with their posterity.
