Since 2000, John Michael has utilized his photographic and creative talents to give back and capture the solemnity, respect and dignity of the final honors at Arlington National Cemetery (ANC).  This work, his way of giving back to those who have given so much in the service to the United States of America, has allowed him to immerse himself into the study of military history and heraldry.  John Michael published the first and second regimental “Old Guard” Calendar in 2009 & 2010. His photography has gone beyond ANC and includes event photography at the National Museum of the Marine Corps and military associations: OSS Society, Old Guard Association and Special Forces Association. John Michael is a member of the Association of the US Army – Fairfax Lee Chapter and is an honorary member of the National Capital Region Chapter of the Special Forces Association. He also is an honorary member of the Presidential Salute Battery of The Old Guard – 3d Infantry Regiment, US Army.  He is also an associate member of the Old Guard Association and a member of the Association of the US Army.  Recognized in 2009 as a Center of Influence for the US Army, he was invited to participate in the “Army Strong Experience” at Fort Meade, Maryland.  A friend of the US Army’s Golden Knights Parachute Team, he’s been skyward with these “Ambassadors from the Skies” of the US Army several times.  John Michael is also a member of the Arlington Historical Society and the Company of Military Historians. Of major note, he was selected to appear at Virginia Festival of the Book 2012 to present & discuss the Fort Myer book.   When not doing photography or historical research, John Michael finds time to be a volunteer for “TAPS” (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors), an avid reader and cook, travel and embark on other artistic endeavors.     As the 150 year anniversary of the US Civil War unfurls, the book represents a tribute to those who have and are serving at Fort Myer in their role of either ceremonial support and/or defending the capital city of Washington DC.  "Preserving the memories so others will remember..." ™
