A lifelong reader, I have only ever wanted to write, except when , reading James Herriot's books as a girl, I briefly flirted with the idea of being a vet.
My family moved a lot when I was a kid, and after I followed my dad to Canada when I was sixteen, moving just became a habit. I've lived in 45 residences in 4 countries. It probably explains why the theme of belonging--to a family and/or a community--runs throughout my work. All three of my novels deal with characters struggling to belong and/or questioning the idea of family and their own identity.

2006 City of Hamilton Arts Award, Literary, for The Wind Seller and contribution to the arts.
