I was born an Army Brat. I accompanied my army officer father all over the world until he retired in 1958. I have crafted my non-fiction book, Once a Brat, Always a Brat, out of my experiences of the first 20 years of my life. The first half could be called "part travelogue, part therapy session" and the second part is my assessment of why military brats are the way we are. It has been called, "A field manual for understanding military brats."
My other non-fiction work also grew out of my own experience with SLE. Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. After suffering for three years and consulting five doctors, one was at last acute enough to determine I had lupus. When I became too ill to attend regurlar support groups, I turned to an online support group known fondly as "Lupies." These women wrote about how they suffered, how they tried to get a diagnosis, and laughed as well as cried with me. After a whiile, I asked permission from the group's owners to survey the membership asking if they would be willing to participate in a proposed book. A number of people signed permission slips, and I was able to compile several stories and postings on the Lupies website. The result was, "The Cards We;re Dealt...And the Joker is Lupus."
I have two published historical novels, one actThe Unexplored Heeart, a Victorian era adventure/romance, and Ladies of the Club, set in the post WWII erae; two paranormal tales featuring a mystical black cat, Sabbath, and two volumes of newspaper columns I wrote for 10 years for a suburban newspaper.
Asy ou can see, I am an eclectic writer: if a theme catches my interest, it will be written.. But not until I finish the sequels to my two historical novels.
An added note, here: This summer, I discovered that my publisher, Vanilla Heart Pubblishing, had viiolated her contract with me and 15 fellow authors in her group. We immediately pulled all our works from Amazon and other sites, and began the arduous task of going "independent." I have republished all my novels under the Create Space imprint on Amazon, and in Kindle formats, also. It was a terrible shock that I had been betrayed by someone I trusted, but life goes on. I recently earned my first royalties under my own name and it was thrilling.
