Born and educated in the UK, I have lived most of my adult life in Sweden, although I do travel a lot, mainly to London, California and New Zealand. (Flying from Auckland to SF you leave in the evening and arrive 8 hours before you started. In the reverse direction you leave in the evening and arrive early in the morning - two days later!) I have been a book lover since my early childhood. Given the opportunity, I think most children are. But stimulated by my early reading, I have also always wanted to write. Writing, however, requires not only a desire but discipline, which I think I acquired during my radio years. Constantly faced with deadlines, not weeks or months ahead but within days, hours or even minutes, you simply have to get on with it. My interests include sport, music ( I once played the fiddle in a folk group that performed at a theatre for three weeks during the Edinburgh Festival), and photography, something which goes back to my schooldays, when I started processing my own black-and-white photos.

I am a graduate of the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), the author of Blue Guide Sweden (London and New York) and Binny And Belloe, a fantasy tale about racism and race relations intended for young and old. I was formerly on the staff of Radio Sweden and have long experience of international and educational broadcasting. I was also a contributor to Radio New Zealand's then Viewpoint programme, have edited/translated many works, including two books by my late brother David: Indian Diary, a vivid and at times hilarious account of his travels in India, and 'Jolly Jack' Solomons, giving a unique insight into the background and life of his uncle, who became Britain and Europe's foremost boxing promoter in the decades after the Second World War and who has been inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame and the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
In addition, I have taught English at most levels and run an intensive course for company employees needing to write documents in English.
