I'm like a sponge, I absorb everything around me. Heck, the conversation last night I had with my husband influenced a scene I wrote today! (no spoilers, sorry) My upbringing on the Haida Gwaii, surrounded by old-growth forests and biological phenomena set my imagination soaring at a young age, and I guess that's where it all started. I'm a Dutch-Scottish Canadian who grew up in a Haida community. I have a degree in Animal Physiology and have worked for multiple governments. There’s so many great authors that have influenced me through the years. It's hard to choose which ones impacted me the most. I could pick one who cemented my love for reading in grade seven (Nancy Drew FTW!); or the authors that opened my mind to the unknown (O.R. Melling – The Chronicles of Faerie), new worlds (Robert Jordan) or dark elements (Anne Rice – the Witching Hour); or I could regale you with my all-time Urban Fantasy loves like Patricia Briggs (Mercy Thompson & Alpha and Omega Series) or Kim Harrison (The Hollows Series).
