A fellow lawyer was arrested and interrogated for writing an anti-establishment article in a catholic newsletter. That spurred into writing my first short story. So, as my introduction shows : I write when something happens and I have something to say about it. That first short story turned out to be The Dinosaur and the Cockroach. The Dinosaur refers to a leader who cannot change his ways, the cockroach to the leader who can adapt his style to what his followers need. And the setting for this story is the social theory of hierarchy of needs, applied to a whole society instead of to individuals. This whole society is fleshed out in a story about four schoolboys. The next short story is the King's Madness. This story is about monogamy vs polygamy. Everyone assumes that polygamy favours the mend, and monogamy favours the women. But this is not true. Due to natural gender ratio, it is a zero sum game that everyone plays. If the top 5% of men marries four wives each, the bottom 20% of men will have no wife. So who gains and who loses? In polygamy the woman who falls in love with a married man can achieve a status as 2nd or 3rd wife. In monogamy, she hides in shame as the mistress condemned by one and all. Who gains and who loses? Read the story to see it from the point of view of ... a lion cub. My recent 2 novels are en epic historical fiction. Is the happiness of a woman defined by whom she loves? Or whom she marries? And why should it be defined in this manner at all? Shouldn't her happiness be defined by what she achieves? This is the premise of these two novels. Set against the backdrop of the fall of Srivijaya Empire and later the fall of the Kingdom of Singapura, the 2nd premise of these 2 novels is that the history recorded by ancient writers is simply not true. History has been sanitised and modified for one reason or another. It is time for our modern society to re-interpret history and "re-present" the right one.

The Dinosaur and the Cockroach won a prize in a national short story writing competition and was compiled into an book by a University Press. It was also published as this author's own anthology of short stories compiled by a publisher company.
