Hamo Vassilian is a hardworking scholar of library science who took his first professional step in this field nearly five decades ago in 1978. He accomplished this by compiling a Guidebook for Iranian Library Graduates and publishing it through the Tehran Book Processing Center (TEBRAC). He has continued his hard work ever since. Hamo Vassilian is a researcher, author, and the publisher of bibliographic and biographical books about Armenians and Armenian Iranians.
With the mass production of information and society's growing need for diverse information across all fields, the need to retrieve, classify, process, edit, and update information and make it accessible is becoming increasingly apparent. Librarians, experts in library and information sciences, or, in modern terms, graduates in information science and epistemology, play a significant role in collecting and presenting information, accurately and scientifically, to information seekers and users. Despite the increasing importance of this field of science, it appears that librarians have yet to establish their presence in Iran, even among those who require information. Unlike other fields of science, librarians do not yet enjoy widespread recognition amongst the Iranian society.
Hamo Vassilian was born in Tabriz in 1952. Soon afterwards, the Vassilian family moved to Tehran, and his childhood and school years were spent in the capital. Hamo spent the first three years of elementary school at the Armenian school of Hoor, with Dajat Boghossian, a well-known figure in the Armenian community, as the school principal. He spent the following years at the elementary and middle school of Mehr-e Jordan, which was established and run by the American Missionaries in Iran. After the school was closed, he completed his high school education at Azar No. 3 school. Continuing his studies at Iran-Zamin College, he completed his Bachelor's degree in Library Science in 1977. During his student years, he worked part-time at the Library Services Center, and later, at the Abraham Lincoln Library.
After graduating from university, Hamo Vassilian moved to the United States and has been living in Los Angeles since 1978. During the first few years, from 1980 to 1989, he worked at the Uni Arts Publishing Company, which specialized in business guides for Armenians in Los Angeles. This work fascinated Hamo because of its research background. Soon afterwards, he independently compiled and published telephone, business, and general information directories for Armenians in America and Canada, for ten years (1991-2000). During that time, Hamo published directories, showcasing information about Armenians in America and Canada that highlighted their educational, research, cultural, religious, and commercial centers available for information seekers and researchers.
Hamo Vassilian has so far published 34 volumes of almanacs, biographical and bibliographic books that are available to the public in public libraries and the libraries of many prestigious American universities. His books have been widely covered in the American press and a few Iranian media sources.
 

Introduction of the Sports Biographical Dictionary The following information is the result of three years of extensive research. It draws on numerous sports-related books and periodical articles that document Armenian Iranians' achievements in the Iranian National Sports Teams or Federations, from 1900 to 2025. In this publication, you can find biographies of 235 Armenians who are or were members of the Iranian National Sports Teams or Federations, serving in various capacities, including as Athletes, Coaches, Referees, or in administrative positions in Iran. They reached the highest level in International sports arenas, representing Iran. Twelve of them who served as Coaches, are from the Republic of Armenia. "Sports Biographical Dictionary: Achievements of Armenians in Iranian National Sports Teams" is a very well-organized publication that also features photos of the athletes. I have attempted to include all available sports-related information, both in print and non-print media, in the main text, in alphabetical order. You can find all key information in a single and very comprehensive Master Index (names and subjects) in over twelve hundred entries, from A to Z, by Last Name, Subject or Keyword, from Auto Racing to Wrestling, at the end of the book. This publication also includes three Appendices. Appendix One contains the following sections: 1) Iranian Armenians who participated in the Summer or Winter Olympic Games, from 1900 to 2024. 2) Iranian Armenians who participated in the Summer or Winter Olympic Games, more than once, from 1948 to 2024. Appendix Two contains the following sections: 1) Iranian Armenians who participated in the Summer Asian Games, from 1951 to 2022. 2) Iranian Armenians who participated in the Summer Asian Games, twice, from 1958 to 2022. Appendix Three contains the following: A table of 220 statistical pieces of information related to sports based on this publication. This book is the 1st of its kind in the English language. I have made every effort to produce a highly accurate and valuable publication for sports enthusiasts, scholars, and educators who are interested in learning about the history and biographies of Iranian Armenian athletes. I have also included all references used in creating this compendium, following each athlete's biography. My very first reference book was published in Iran, in 1979. My first book in the USA, entitled "Armenian American Almanac," was published in 1985. This latest reference book is my Thirty-fourth publication, and it is my first biographical work about Armenians.
