Both locally and nationally, native Charlottean, Chanetta Diane McNeal, is an amazing talent making inroads on the poetry scene. Her performances are characterized by evocative and thought-provoking portrayals drawn from her own life experiences. Ms. McNeal has authored a wide array of poetry since the mid nineties. Among her most celebrated works is a soul-stirring piece entitled “Beginning of Life” and The International Library of Poetry published this poem in its Dreams and Fantasies anthology in 2001. Also, she has published works in The Best Poems and Poets for 2001 and 2002, and The International Who's Who in Poetry 2012 anthology. Among her numerous artistic accomplishments, in  July 2001, April 2002, and February 2004, Ms. McNeal was a recipient of the Editor’s Choice Award for Outstanding Achievement in poetry from the International Library of Poetry. To add, Ms. McNeal was nominated for the 2005 Black Book Award from Conquering Books. Finally, Ms. McNeal was a board member for the Charlotte African American Writers Group (CAAW) in NC and a member of African-American Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (AACBWI).
