Information
Nagueyalti Warren grew up in Los Angeles, California. She completed her undergraduate education (BA degree) at Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee, and graduate degrees (MA degrees) from Boston University and Simmons College. She earned a Ph.D. from The University of Mississippi and recently received an MFA from Goddard College.
Margaret circa 1834-1858 is her second book of poetry. She has edited a poetry anthology, Temba Tupu! (Walking Naked) The Africana Woman's Poetic Self Portrait published by The Africa World Press. It will appear this spring. Wade in the Water is a literary novel that Warren has completed. Currently she is looking for a publisher.
Major influences on Warren's poetry have been the women writers of the Black Arts Movement, especially Nikki Giovanni as well as the novelists Alice Walker and Toni Morrison.
