These works represent my grabbing life by the hand and drawing my stories in the air. For if we're lucky our words will float and reveal who we are, what we have done, and the many paths that we have chosen to walk in life. My first work, Pilgrim's Steps, reflects on the history behind Spain's enigmatic St. James the Greater, the routes of pilgrimage to his shrine, and their origins in pre-Christian beliefs and symbolism. Conversations on La Playa, my memoir on my life in Medellin, Colombia, recounts my experiences and adventures in this country, so full of mystery, peril, beauty, and courageous people. Catching Winds North, an anthology of poems that spans almost 50 years, invites the reader to revel in life's promises, challenges, blessings, and the changes that walking our paths brings us. This literary journey contains narratives, which emerge from a sounding of what we all have in us; a millenniums-old universal interior voice, personal historical realities, and a desire to share our life stories with others.

Robert Hodum studied archaeology, history, and Spanish language and literature at Gettysburg College. After attending the Bolivariana University and the University of Antioquia in Medellín, Colombia, he completed his undergraduate studies at Stony Brook University with a specialization in Latin American history and Spanish and Latin American literature. His graduate degree at SUNY at Stony Brook focused on Latin American history and Spanish culture and civilization.
The author currently lives on Long Island.
