I am a professor at Lancster University in the UK. As an academic author I have published about 15 books (depending on how you count second and third editions of the same title). My books cover two main areas: methodologies for conducting research into management and organisations; and the nature and nurturing of learning and innovation in organisational settings. My best known book, judging by sales figures, provides an introduction to management research methods. It was first published in 1991, with a fourth edition appearing in 2012. For a few years the first edition dominated the market in management and business research because it was the first comprehensive book of its kind; but soon, alas, many competitors appeared and they have gobbled up large slices of what is, fortunately, still a fast-growing market. I was somewhat surprised to discover that I was an 'author' since I was lousy at English at school, and I write very slowly. The latter has partly been rectified by the development of excellent speech recognition software. On the other hand, I've had Parkinson's for about the last 10 years, and that slows me down on a bad day. So I guess that takes me back to when I started.
