Before I was a writer, I wrote but did not know a writer was a possible occupation, or even a person to be. I wrote because it was the one thing at that time in my life that could not and was not taken from me. I wrote in crayon when my pen was taken, in safety pins, and other things. Later, I was introduced to slam poetry in Saginaw, my home town. Then it was Sylvia Plath and Emily Dickinson. Following soon after, was Mr. Jeff Vande Zande, my fiction professor at Delta College, who encouraged me to write fiction when at the time, 'I only wrote poetry.' Now, I am dedicated to literature altogether, and plan to expand myself literally in every way possible.

My first contest was of third grade. I knew a poet's life was rough, when I entered two poems: one which I hated, but encouraged to submit, and the other which I loved. The one I hated won.

-organized street laundromat poetry slams and my own poetry show at the White Crow Cafe in Saginaw

-handmade my own poetry books and sold them out of my backpack for gas money as a college freshman

-handed out free handmade christian poetry books during Christmas time of 2006
