A graduate of Hartwick College and Boston University School of Theology, she is working on a doctorate at Hartford Seminary. She began writing at the age of 10 and won her first prize at age 12 in the Worcester Sunday Telegram children's pages for a 6-line poem. A sixth generation writer from her father's line (Gummere), she is a member of the National League of American Pen Women, and serves on their national board as chaplain (2004-present). She is a past president of the Wellesley and Cape Cod Branches of NLAPW. etc.
