Information
Amber Decker's first book of poetry, Sweet Relish, was published in 2002 when she was just nineteen.
Her poems have been published widely in various print and online publications, and are influenced heavily by childhood events, especially the death of her father in December of 1994.
Her writing seeks to illuminate what it means to be young and female in today's society. This includes pieces on relationships, sexuality, the workplace, and pre-concieved notions of feminine beauty and gender roles.
Amber grew up reading and has been inspired by the poetry of Charles Bukowski, Nicole Blackman, Lucie Brock-Broido, Chrystos, Todd Colby, Carolyn Forche, Billy Collins, Judy Jordan, and Dorianne Laux, though she seeks neither to imitate nor to best those who have influenced her.
