John J Gerhard, S.J.       The Source and Artistic Director of this book is emeritus professor of theology and biblical studies at St. John’s University in New York City. His intimate knowledge of the Gospel of John narrative was developed during 50 years of dedicated scholarship. It has been his major goal to bring the Gospel story to life in this book, THE TRAIL OF GLORY, of Jesus’ public ministry. The original oil paintings reproduced here in full color were developed to enable the viewer to experience, first hand as it were in the gaze of his imagination, the persons, places, objects, and events described in the New Testament Gospel of John. It is Fr. Gerhard’s hope that such quiet contemplation will assist the viewer in experiencing God, which is an essential aspect of the Christian life. Fr. Gerhard now resides in retirement at Fordham University in New York City.
