I grew up the daughter of a screenwriter and novelist. Although I had little aspiration to be a novelist, I felt drawn to storytelling and poetry. Eventually I couldn't resist the call to write and so have been writing novels now for two decades.   I'm a huge fan of fantasy autor Patricia A. McKillip and her books influnce my lyrical writing and my fantasy novels. Authors like Elizabeth George have shown me how important characters are to a mystery novel and I have learned this to be the key factor in writing a great novel--creating characters that are complex, flawed, and have aspirations to fulfill their calling in life, whatever that may be. I also like to explore the psychology of human nature and so I push my characters over the line, forcing them to do things they normally wouldn't. And that makes readers ask what they would do if so hard pressed.
