I've been writing since I could hold a pencil.  And if I don't write for a while, I get ornery and disagreeable.  So I don't really write by choice; it's more of a need.  I don't write, though, simply to vent; I write each piece for the reader.  I hope that each reader finishes my books not just satisfied, but also intrigued by some new idea or tidbit of information contained within the story. I didn't start writing books until my second child was born.  (Before that, I wrote scripts and articles for clients.)  Since then, some 20 years ago, I've published about twenty books, beginning with non-fiction (STEPMOTHERS, BIRTHMOTHERS) and humor (I LOVE HIM, BUT..., I LOVE HER, BUT..., PLEASE DON'T KISS ME AT THE BUS STOP, IF SHE WEREN'T MY BEST FRIEND, I'D KILL HER, and AMERICA'S DUMBEST DATES.) Lately, I've been writing suspense/mysteries, which I like because I see them as a paradigm for life.  Life itself is, after all, a suspense story.  We never know what will happen when or where.  We all face hurdles and struggle to survive.  Mystery/suspense translates that process into story form.  The villain/crime is the hurdle.  The solution is survival.  This is, I think, why the genre has such lasting appeal: everyone can relate to it.  We all feel vicarious relief and triumph when the evil-doer is taken down and "normal" life restored.  For a while. All my books deal with relationships.  My characters deal with humdrum real life--paying bills, taking care of the house, dealing with a romantic partner, having kids and friends and parents, etc.--even in the face of menacing danger or havoc.  The Zoe Hayes mysteries (THE NANNY MURDERS, THE RIVER KILLINGS, THE DEADLY NEIGHBORS, THE BORROWED AND BLUE MURDERS) are no longer out of print; all four have been converted to ebooks and to print on demand.  SUMMER SESSION, BEHIND THE WALLS, WINTER BREAK, OUTSIDE EDEN and IN THE WOODS, the Harper Jennings thrillers, began in 2012. I'm re-releasing them as ebooks and print, after their original publisher has been sold and they've gone out of print. The Elle Harrison suspense novels include THE TROUBLE WITH CHARLIE, ELECTIVE PROCEDURES and CHILD'S PLAY (Best Book Award Winner for Suspense). All are also available as ebooks and print. Some are on audio as well. Two stand-alones are my most recent books: WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW, (2019) is a domestic thriller and award finalist, and THE WOMAN IN THE CUPBOARD (2020), a dark detective novel.  I am a proud member of the Authors Guild, Mystery Writers of America and The Philadelphia Liars Club.
