I am fascinated by what drives organizational success, what differentiates excellent performance from mediocre performance and how to develop talent to make a real difference to companies’ bottom line. This fascination has led me on a personal journey from doing the work to managing the team that did the work to developing the managers who managed the teams that did the work to developing the leaders who run the companies so that everyone can succeed.
Early Career
I started my career as a Fund Accountant in Scudder Stevens & Clarke, Boston, MA, and quickly moved into management, where I was intrigued by how best to develop my team to ensure everyone's success in a daily, fast-paced, and time-pressured environment.
I returned to Dublin, Ireland in 1999 and quickly saw that my experience and knowledge would be best used in a Training & Development role for AIB/BNY, a joint venture between AIB and Bank of New York, the leading funds company in Dublin in what was still a fledgling industry in Ireland at that time. During my 6 years there, I built up the training department while simultaneously developing management and leadership skills within the business. I designed and delivered an effective management development programme, designed a company-wide competency framework, which I incorporated into their recruitment, performance management and talent management processes and I also worked with the Management Committee to design the company's values.
Evolution Consulting
In 2006, I left and set up Evolution Consulting, an executive coaching, training, and management consulting business. As part of my own coaching course, I became curious about personal values and their impact on everyday life. This curiosity led me to working with individuals, teams and businesses, to see if they benefited from understanding both their personal and core company values, as much as I had. It regularly turned out that they did.
Over the next 5 years, I honed my thoughts and ideas on the importance of understanding one’s own values as well as how they interact with core company values. Combining my urge to write with the insights I had gathered over the previous 5 years, it was just a matter of time before the idea of my book, Not Just for the Office Wall Plaque: How Personal and Company Values Intersect, was born.
