She was raised in Nevada, California, and Oregon. As a young adult she traveled across the US, through southern Canada, into Mexico and Central America where she got lost in the jungle of Guatemala (don't do it, you could get eaten!) She is the single mother of three brilliant children who were her major inspiration to write. When Cate's children were very young, she would record their observations about the world around them, "Do I day dream? Which day?" Her first book, Life as Seen in Short centers around the raising of her children. Currently, she is working on a revised edition, which includes their birthing stories and more anecdotes from their childhoods. Motherhood is Cate's proudest legacy and she recommends it to everyone. Cate now teaches sixth grade in a rural middle school, where the ‘hits just keep on comin'’ and she is inspired daily by the trials children are put through: poverty, families affected and addicted to alcohol and drugs, neglect, abuse, and bullying. She is working on a YA story about being in middle school. As a young reader, Cate's major influences were Edgar Allen Poe and Louisa May Alcott. She appreciates a diverse author base; in comparison, her love of music ranges from "Amadeus to Zappa" and the same can be said for her interest in literature. Cate started an in-home bakery in 2010 and has since added a love of baking gourmet cookies to her hobbies. You can find her cookies at www.redtinhomemadecookies.com.
