Decided to write for a living because we lived too far back in the woods to make commuting practical, found my niche in fiction, mostly romance but also science fiction and fantasy, and never looked back.
I've been a ghost writer, written confession stories, mysteries, and literary fiction. My latest venture is e-publishing, which is more daunting then I'd have ever believed. The writing is more enjoyable. I just write the story without worrying about word counts or what genre it'll fit into best. But the marketing is brutal and what I don't know about social media would fill a book. Or two. Or three.
