I will read anything that moves a plot along. I am a big fan of science-fiction/fantasy. Authors I am committed to: Brandon Sanderson, Orson Scott Card, Diana Pharoah Francis, Michelle Sagara, Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Dan Brown, Cormac McCarthy, Ayn Rand, Jodi Picoult...the list goes on. I appreciate authors who can introduce ethical dilemmas into their work, and really make you think. Orson Scott Card and Stephen King are masters at this, and Brandon Sanderson is the most exciting new author with this skillset. Great storytellers and masters of human motivation. Cormac McCarthy is stunning with his descriptive prose. I can read a single sentence of his over and over, just appreciating his wizardry with words. Ayn Rand has become a tool for right wind politics, but long before that, she introduced the strongest female characters and outlined the benefits of individualism. She got the nature of capitalism wrong, but hey, she tells a good story. My goal for my work is to write, to tell an interesting story, and to give the characters in my head a voice. I’m not a good marketer, and other than my friends and family, my writing pretty much goes unread. I’ve just self-published my second book, and I’m taking baby steps to getting in the groove of putting my work in front of people to build readership.
