I have always had a compulsion to be creative and like to paint or think up new inventions but I am at my happiest when I write, losing myself in a parallel world; engineering unusual situations or twists in a play or a story, with the hope that they may intrigue or make others smile. My inspiration to write 3004 came from dreams and the challenge to write something that my son would enjoy as he could never find a book that he liked.  So after, six years of writing in my spare time, I produced ‘3004’ a science fiction fantasy for teenagers.  For my next book 'Chanctonbury', it was a local landmark the Chanctonbury Ring that caught my attention. As a child, Maplehurst, Horsham was where I came to spend my holidays and it was my grandmother who brought to my attention the Chanctonbury Ring when we were on our way to Worthing. She told me the stories about the ghosts and that the Devil had made the hill. I looked at Ring in awe and have wanted to write about it ever since.  A couple of years ago, I dared to go up there – Martin, my husband and I battled our way up the hill in such a strong wind that you could almost lean into it and not fall over. Once inside the Ring the wind dropped and it felt as if it was enchanted and the spirits within the hill were all willing to share their stories. Fortunately the Devil did not appear!
