I studied to be a doctor in a relatively small city in India because that was what my parents wanted me to do. But my real interest and passion was writing. Hence I relaocated to Bombay in 1982 and joined a hospital as a junior medical officer. In 1986, I got my first full time job as a journalist, in the Indian Express. Since then I have continued in my adopted profession.

I entered the world of newspapers in September 1986 about four years after completing my medical degree from Gandhi Medical College in Bhopal.
