Background Information

As a social critic, Human Rights-oriented autodidact with strong interest in sociology, arts, and the sciences, Mark Plimsoll believes that our planet, globally warmed by human activities, will become less habitable real fast unless the USA reduces consumption, military-imposed hegemony, and in general, "bottom line" Capitalist greed without environmental consequences in the equation. As a young man, he hitchhiked into Latin America to discover how people live on one dollar per day, and began the life-long acquisition of Spanish as his second language. His literary works typically lack passive voice, gratuitous violence, and instead include normal yet taboo subjects like sex, politics, and religion. As a "global citizen," author Mark Plimsoll sees himself as a troubadour-troublemaker, in the sense which Mario Vargas Llosa wrote about in his novel "The Storyteller;" a shamanistic traveling musician/author that serves as backdrop to mating rituals, church services, entertainment centers, and newscast to far-flung communities. During decades moving around North America, learning Spanish along the way, he worked as a maid, tar roofer, Art Museum Preparator, programmer, computer consultant, and teacher (etc). In 2007, he wrote and produced an audio book complete with sound effects, songs, and art titled "Cell U.R." a science fiction comedy about being human cellphones in a future with alienation, flying alligators, and tattoo-artist bellydancer professional escort vampires. He now dedicates himself promoting his artistic visions through his work as a "transmedia artist" who tells stories that span various artistic media; blogging, print, photo, graphic arts, and songwriting/singing/performing in the streets on electric guitar with backup vocal loops. So far, published books include "WMD Machete" (memoir of experiencing Guatemala's earthquake that killed 22,000), "Havana Ball - Christian Philanthropy in culture shock," the novel "Godless Goddess," and "Cell U.R."
