Born in Manapla, Negros Occidental, Philippines on 14 September 1940, Fr.JJ was the fourth child of Arsenio and Naty Jesena.
He finished Grade School at Bacolod West Elementary School in 1952, and High School at the Ateneo de Davao in 1956. After three years of College, JJ was admitted to the Jesuit Novitiate in Novaliches. He pronounced his Perpetual Vows on 31 May 1961.
In 1969, he went down to Negros Island to experience the life , work, and sufferings of the migrant workers in the haciendas. Fr.JJ's report, " THE SACADAS OF SUGARLAND", was abombshell, received worldwide attention, and anticipated the bloody social unrest that would rack the Philippines for the next 16 years.
In 1970, Juni Jesena was ordained to the Priesthood by His Holiness, Pope Paul VI.
Martial Law found Fr. JJ serving as Director of Social Action in Bukidnon, Mindanao, working side by side with Bishop Francisco Claver, S.J., and the other valiant Jesuit Missionaries there, for the liberation of the exploited LUMADS and the suffering peasant- farmers.
In 1978 he was back at the Ateneo de Manila, teaching Theology and doing Campus Ministry. From 1992 until the May ,2001, Fr.Juni Jesena worked as Chaplain in Xavier School, San Juan and assisted at Mary the Queen Parish and the Pinaglabanan Church.
From June,2001 Fr. JJ taught Literature at the Humanities Division of the Ateneo
de Davao University, Davao City, Philippines 8000. Two years later he returned to the Ateneo de Manila University's Jesuit Residence where he wrote and published the following books - ANG BULINGIT NGA DIYOS, EMBRACED BY GOD, WHERE IS GOD, PAGLALAMBING, GOD WAS ALWAYS THERE,and MY DEAR NYSSA .
