I began writing and sharing my poetry to encourage, enlighten and inspire others through positive poetry to rise above their circumstances, take responsibility and turn mistakes into learning lessons. My influences have been Maya Angelou, Nikki Giovanni and Langston Hughes.

Deserie has lectured or conducted seminars for DC Public Schools, several colleges, Concerned Black Men, Independent Schools, Comprehensive Health Department, The Department of Justice, Do The Write Thing Foundation, MultiCultural Youth Organization, Inc., For Sister’s Only Event, The Black Family Reunion and The Black Luv Festival. Deserie was also the official radio/t.v. voice-over representative for a local clothing chain.
