One year at Lent, I set myself the task of finding an answer to the question, "How could Hannah ever give up Samuel to the Lord at the age of three?"  I thought it was a sacrifice, but serious study and meditation made it clear to me that it was something very different.  That study became a book, and the experience propelled me into writing seriously.  When my pastor invited me to write meditations for the church e-mail newsletter, I began to find my voice as a writer.  I discovered that my life was changing as I learned more about God through the Bible study that was essential to my writing.  I began to feel that God was leading me to a real career.  As people confirmed that impression by sharing with me that what I wrote nourished their faith, I committed myself to find a publisher. I mostly write Christian fiction and meditations/studies of Biblical texts.  My interest in Christian story-telling has grown alongside my writing, because Biblical stories are dense and deep, and I love both telling and writing what I learn as I study.  My novel Shiloh's Daughter explores a biblical story in a way that probes the density of the story, expands its detail, but stays true to the core of the life of Hannah as revealed in the Bible.  This is what I commit to do with everything I write.
