You name it, it's there -- novels, short stories, poetry, even articles and a collection of love letters -- all meant to antagonize, to spur readers to right societal wrongs.
My interdisciplinary novel The Second Tour: 6th Edition is a story about a man haunted by the murder of a young girl. It's been taught in an Honors History course at Regis University. It has also been taught in Behavioral Sciences and English classes at the US Air Force Academy; in Honors English courses at George Washington University, where it is still taught occasionally and still listed on the extra-credit reading list; in an Honors Political Science course at the University of Kentucky; in undergraduate English classes at Big Bend Community College in Moses Lake, Washington; and in a fiction book group of Trauma Experts at the Washington Psychoanalytic Institute.
My novel Show Time is an antagonistic novel about toxic relationships, about the American male laid bare for young women needing help recognizing the signs of an abusive personality.
Another novel, The Triplets: As They Lay Dying, is contemporary, experimental fiction, a collage of short stories, poems, miscellaneous thoughts and feelings woven into a short novel spanning several generations and showcasing the disparate lives and deaths of three siblings individually struggling to survive intersecting political and viral pandemics.
I’d say the major influences on my work have included the following writers: Faulkner, Thoreau, Hawthorne, O’Connor and Melville, in that order. My favorite living writer is Cormac McCarthy.
When all is said and done as pertains to my work, I lay claim to being America's worst-selling author and challenge any writer to top that!
